As Chris Whipple writes in his new book, Uncharted, which chronicles the final days of Joe Biden’s disastrous reelection effort, the author and filmmaker includes fresh revelations about a campaign that attempted to persevere despite alarming signs of President Biden’s decline, which ultimately came into public view because no one was willing to be frank with the former president.
“They just never had a grown-up in the room who could look Joe Biden in the eye and say, ‘What the f*ck are you doing?’” as Leon Panetta puts it.
I believe we’re facing the same phenomenon now with President Trump, especially in light of his disastrous tariff moves. No one in his administration is willing to say “What the f*ck are you doing?” Either because they are sycophants or incompetents. He is not of sound mind to be leading the most powerful economy in the world, and someone he listens to needs to call him on it.
Some radical candor would not go astray right now. But…when you are in the thick of it, it’s hard for those who have aligned themselves (for whatever reason) to see things as they really are.
I suppose the "someone he listens to" bit is a big part of the problem. He doesn't seem to listen to anyone who challenges him in any way, shape, or form.
